José Manuel Bartolo holds a PhD in Communication Sciences, by the Human and Social Sciences College of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. (2006). Teacher Coordinator and Chairman of the Scientific Council of ESAD, School of Arts and Design, in Matosinhos, Portugal. He was a member of the Board of CECL at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and is currently a member of the Advisory Board of i2ADS - Institute for Research in Art, Design and Society at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Universidade de Lisboa; professor in the Doctoral Program in Architecture at University of Porto. Develops work of teaching, research and critical practices in the areas of art, design and architecture since 1998 and authored over a hundred articles published nationally and internationally. His recent research has focused on the study of alternative economic models, based on the creative economy and the potential of cultural industries. Integrates the European network CTUR and chairs the Executive Council of the Association Quadra - Center for Innovation and Creativity, with direct responsibilities over the incubator of creative projects and cultural programs for the city. Member of the research project "Design, Social Innovation and Sustainability", submitted for funding to the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
