Linha 3: Media e Processos de Mediação
Coordenada por António Fernando Cascais
Keywords
Mediation; New Media; Reception; Television Studies.
This new research group «Media and Mediation Processes» results from the combination of two previous research groups, «Mediation Systems: Technologies, Practices and Discourses and «New Forms of Mediation». The fundamental objective is to create a field of research dedicated to Mass Media and to New Media, in order to apprehend the interaction of modern mediation processes in their complexity.
The research covers the following areas:
-
Television, cinema and documentary studies. In this area, we seek to continue the studies previously initiated about the audiovisual policies, namely in what concerns the effects of the migration of analogue networks to the digital. We seek to broaden the research on the genealogy of genres of the audiovisual experience, with particular focus on the Portuguese case. This area will also develop research in the areas of reception, audiences and their strategies. Also, we intent to create a laboratorial line of research in new forms of television and cinema discourse, allowing to extend, diversify and improve the quality of the programming and also of the viewer’s reception and experience.
-
New Media and Knowledge Society. As a crucial issue in our times, we will analyse the challenging mutation of media which, by becoming new technological forms, are also altering the codes of reference in media culture.
- Public Space and New Forms of Mediation. Conclusion of the research project «Models and Pratices of Communication of Science in Portugal», in June 2008. In the context of this project, four publications are expected until 2010 by the head of the project, António Fernando Cascais: Issue n. 38 of the centre's academic journal Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens, with the theme «Mediação dos Saberes», and the books Bioética e Experimentação; A Mediação dos Saberes na Era da Técnica" and Bioética e Mediação dos Saberes.
